🏠 Heritage Boards Accessibility
Accessibility Statement: Bognor Heritage Boards Project
The Bognor Heritage Boards project is committed to making our town's rich history accessible to everyone. We believe that heritage should be enjoyed and understood by all, regardless of age, ability, or background.
We are striving to ensure our heritage boards and associated content are as accessible as possible by considering the following:
-
Physical Placement and Design:
-
Location: Boards will be strategically placed in publicly accessible areas, considering pathways, pedestrian routes, and proximity to public transport. We aim to avoid narrow pavements or obstructions.
-
Height and Orientation: Information will be presented at an appropriate height for both standing and seated users, including wheelchair users.
-
Clearance: Sufficient clear space around each board will be maintained to allow for easy approach and viewing by individuals using wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or with assistance dogs.
-
Contrast and Legibility: Text will be presented in high-contrast colours against a suitable background, using clear, sans-serif fonts of an appropriate size to ensure maximum legibility for people with visual impairments.
-
Non-Glare Surfaces: Materials will be chosen to minimise glare and reflections, particularly in sunny conditions, to improve readability.
-
Content Accessibility:
-
Simple Language: Information will be presented in clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language, avoiding overly academic jargon.
-
Visual Aids: Where appropriate, images, maps, and illustrations will be used to enhance understanding, and these will be carefully selected to be clear and informative.
-
Digital Complement: We will explore supplementary digital content (e.g., QR codes linking to audio descriptions, larger text versions, or British Sign Language (BSL) interpretations) to provide alternative formats and cater to diverse access needs. This could be hosted on a dedicated project website, which will itself adhere to WCAG 2.1 AA standards where possible.
-
Feedback and Improvement:
-
We welcome feedback from the community on the accessibility of the heritage boards. If you encounter any barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us. Your input will be invaluable in helping us continually enhance accessibility.
-
We are committed to reviewing and improving the accessibility of the Bognor Heritage Boards project on an ongoing basis.
By prioritizing accessibility, we aim to ensure that the stories of Bognor Regis are truly for everyone.
