The Day Sussex Died, 1916
Tue 30 Jun 26
Lest we forget
The Day Sussex Died - At 3:05am on Friday, 30 June 1916, the brave men of the 11th, 12th, and 13th Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment (known as the Pals Battalions and also as Lowther’s Lambs) went "over the top".
By 8am, they were decimated, with 366 killed and over 1,000 more wounded or taken prisoner.
Among the dead were 12 sets of brothers, including three brothers from the Lynch family of Littlehampton who died on the same day.
We salute them all and remember them always.
